On Thursday 3 July 2025, students at the Academy of St Nicholas staged a sustainable fashion show, titled “Where’s Your Thread At?”. The show took place in the school’s atrium and was a sell‑out event.
The fashion show aimed to highlight the environmental impact of fast fashion, showing how recycling and upcycling can give clothes a second life. Students learnt about textile waste and repurposing — some even visited Roberts Recycling plant as part of the project, any leftover clothing or material scraps were recycled, ensuring minimal waste.
One student, a Year 10 pupil, said: “the experience was inspiring” after picking up donated fabrics and creating her own outfit, she “enjoyed every minute” of being on the catwalk — and even said she’s been inspired to consider a future as a fashion designer.
The headteacher emphasised, the show was “A true celebration of student creativity, collaboration, and compassion,” emphasising both sustainability and mental‑health awareness.
Representatives from New Mersey Retail Park and Roberts Recycling likewise praised the community spirit and the show’s capacity to raise awareness of recycling and sustainable consumption. Financially, the event was a fundraiser with all proceeds from ticket and raffle sales donated to YPAS with the event raising over £500.
