Community
Outreach:

 |
The
Community Outreach Project offers one to one support
and individual advocacy and advice to young adults
aged 18 to 25 around a range of issues:
- Housing
- emergency and longer term,
- Healthcare
- access to appropriate services,
- Substance
misuse
- referral to appropriate services,
- Mental
health and well-being,
- Immigration
and asylum issues,
- Disability
and access to appropriate support agencies.
|
Target
groups include:
-
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people,
- diverse
faith communities,
- black
and minority ethnic young people,
- young
people who are, or at risk of becoming, homeless,
-
young people living with a disability,
- young
people experiencing mental distress.
|
|
Support
can take on many different faces as each young person
can have complex needs.
We
have made positive links with various agencies across
the city which support young people, to provide a diverse
approach to meet the needs of all young people aged 18-25.
This
includes a partnership with the YMCA and Cobalt Housing,
with whom we have developed and delivered a resettlement
and life skills package for young people as a 10 week
programme. The programme consists of methods and techniques
that will provide young people with the skills to live
and maintain independent living:
- Cooking
on a budget / life skills,
- Opening
a bank account / paying bills,
- House
maintenance / landlords and law,
- Debt
management / credit unions,
- Positive
socializing / relaxation techniques.
The
Community Outreach Project also enables young people aged
18-25 to attend forums which are relevant to them, so
that their views can be heard about issues which concern
and affect them.
